Privacy Policy
Pixnest ("the app") is a screenshot organizer that works entirely on your device. This policy explains what the app accesses, what it stores, and what it never does. In short: Pixnest does not collect, upload, sell or share your data. We never see your screenshots.
1. Who we are
Pixnest is developed and published by the Pixnest developer ("we", "us"). For privacy questions, contact us through the support channel listed in section 12.
2. The short version
- No account, no sign-in, no cloud.
- Your screenshots and everything Pixnest learns from them stay on your device.
- Text recognition (OCR) runs on your device.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no data brokers.
- The Android app does not even request permission to use the internet.
3. What Pixnest accesses
Your photo library (screenshots). With your permission, Pixnest reads the screenshots in your device's photo library so it can show, search and organize them. You can grant full access or, on Android 14+ and iOS, access to selected photos only. You can change or revoke this at any time in your device settings.
Pixnest reads screenshots in place. It does not copy your images into its own storage, and it never uploads them anywhere.
4. What Pixnest stores on your device
To make search and organization work, Pixnest keeps a private database inside the app's storage on your device. It contains:
- references to your screenshots (an internal ID and the system's identifier), file names, dates, dimensions and file sizes;
- text recognized in your screenshots, and details found in that text (links, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, prices and dates);
- categories, favorites, collections and notes you create;
- image fingerprints (a cryptographic hash and a visual hash) used to find duplicates;
- your settings (theme, scanning and text-recognition options), recent searches, and a log of scans.
This data never leaves your device unless you export it yourself (section 7).
5. How processing works
- Text recognition: on Android, Google ML Kit's text recognition model is bundled inside the app and runs on your device; on iOS, Apple's built-in Vision framework runs on your device. No image or text is sent to Google, Apple or anyone else for recognition.
- Categories: assigned by fixed keyword rules on your device. No artificial-intelligence service or language model is used.
- Duplicates: found by comparing fingerprints on your device.
6. What Pixnest never does
- We do not collect personal data, usage data, device identifiers, location or contacts.
- We do not use analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking software.
- We do not sell, rent or share data with anyone, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
- We do not download your originals from iCloud: on iOS, Pixnest only works with images already stored on your device.
On Android, Pixnest's release build removes the internet permission, including any that third-party libraries would otherwise add. On iOS there is no internet permission to remove; Pixnest's code makes no network requests.
7. Sharing and backups you choose
- Sharing: when you tap Share, Pixnest prepares a temporary copy of that screenshot and hands it to the share sheet. Where it goes is up to you and the app you choose. Temporary copies are deleted automatically.
- Pixnest backup: Settings › Back up creates a file containing Pixnest's database (not your images). It may contain recognized text and notes, which can be sensitive. You decide where to save it; please store it safely.
- Opening links, e-mails or phone numbers: tapping a detected link, e-mail or number opens it in another app on your device, under that app's privacy policy.
8. Operating-system backups
- Android: Pixnest opts out of Android Auto Backup and device-to-device transfer for its data.
- iOS: iOS may include app data in encrypted device or iCloud backups according to your device settings. This is controlled by Apple and you, not by Pixnest.
- Your photos themselves follow your photo-library and cloud-photo settings.
9. Deleting your data
- Settings › Clear local data erases Pixnest's database. Your photos are not touched.
- Uninstalling Pixnest removes everything it stored.
- Pixnest only deletes an image from your photo library when you choose to and confirm. Your device also asks you to confirm.
10. Children
Pixnest is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. Because Pixnest collects no personal data, it does not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Your rights
Because we do not collect or hold your personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or erase on our side. All data Pixnest uses is on your device and under your control, as described in sections 7 and 9. Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you have rights over your personal data; you can exercise them directly on your device, or contact us with any question.
12. Contact
Questions or concerns: open an issue at github.com/Pavankumarh0/pixnest/issues (please do not include personal information).
13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date and the version shown in the app and on our website. Material changes will be noted in the release notes.
